Citrus Sinensis (1996)

Seven Sanctuaries Gallery, Los Angeles, CA

Ste-specific installation informed by the history of the location of the building when it was originally built in 1930, a time when the valley was completely saturated with citrus groves. Troughs of store- bought soil were placed along the walls, orange stands were spaced evenly apart simulating an artificial orange grove, and an audio sound track of morning birds echoed throughout the space.A small video monitor embedded in the wall had a continuous image of the Los Angeles River (the primary source of the irrigation for the groves, siphoned off the Colorado River).
