STREET ROYALTY (2003)

De Balie, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

A live performance and artwork with Doran George specially commissioned by The Netherlands Transgender Film Festival in collaboration with Jennifer Parker and  Bret Parker as a site specific work. The name “Street Royalty” refers to the slang “Street Queen” which academic Susan Stryker cited as an important historical root of contemporary transgender culture. The sculpture offered a point of contemplation for the experiences of vulnerability and acts of strength that are integral to the lives of transgender people.
